The First Day of the Fourth King
(As Recorded by a Very Tired Scribe)
Hour One:
The king leaves the throne. He returns briefly. Leaves again.
Hour Two:
The king kisses a baker. The baker cries.
Hour Three:
The king interrupts a council debate to greet a chair. We are unsure why.
Hour Four:
A line forms. No one knows why. Everyone waits happily.
Hour Five:
The king naps for seven minutes on a stranger’s lap. Declares it “acceptable.”
Hour Six:
I am kissed. I did not consent, but I am not upset.
Hour Seven:
The throne room is empty. The kingdom feels fuller.
Conclusion:
We will need new ink.
And possibly towels.
